2/10/2014- Process of Inquiry & Research

2/11/2014

Today our "I can" statement was: I can research information using the process of inquiry.

Usually one Mondays do a close reading and free read, but we started research today and because of the tight computer schedule, we had to do something a bit different today. Tomorrow we will work on our MLK packets and free read. But for today...

The first thing we did today was take notes about what the process of inquiry is. Here is the PowerPoint we used. Copy the notes from a neighbor.
After taking notes, each person got their Chromebook and followed the directions below to ask questions and organize their research on MindMeister. Follow the instructions to create your own mind map so that you won't be behind when we get the computers again on Wednesday.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Go to https://www.mindmeister.com/signup/basic

Sign up for a free account. USE THE FOLLOWING STEPS TO SIGN UP!

1.      For your name write your first name and the first letter of your last name.
2.      Your email should be your school email.
3.      You password must be the same as your SIS password.

Once you have agreed to the terms and conditions, go to your email to verify the account. (This may take up to a minute.) Click on the blue hyperlink in the email from MindMeister and you will be directed to your account.

Click “New Mind Map” on the top left hand of the screen. Then select “Brainstorming.”

Use the Brainstorm page to fill in your main idea, questions, and the answers you find.

Once you have picked a big topic, write it in the center oval. Then make a list of at least 3 possible questions and put them in the ovals going out from the big topic. Next, start researching!

WHEN YOU FIND A SOURCE YOU LIKE, COPY AND PASTE THE URL onto your MindMeister.
