I can compare a nonfiction text to its multimedia form.

I can compare the main idea in different mediums of nonfiction text.

Part 1: Apple Commercial 2.0

Today we looked at the Apple commercial that we did last Friday. Afterward we talked about what we learned yesterday (besides the bit about Doctor Who.) We talked about thinking deeply and how we can do an even better job answering the questions about the Apple commercial now that we have more practice with deep thinking.

Now that you know better, go back to last Friday's lesson about Apple and Walt Whitman. Redo the assignment, and this time ask the why questions. We get that the music has an impact on the text, but what kind of an impact? Why would the creator of the video chose that music instead of another kind of music? And it's not because that music was the first song they thought of.

As you do this assignment, really think about your answers. You'll know that you are on the right track if you realize that you have way more to say in your answer.

Part 2: Beach Bodies

For the second half of class we compared themes in different types of mediums.

Watch the following video about male body image and try to figure out what you think the message is. (The style is pretty different from what we have watched in class before, so you may need to watch it twice.)
Oooh, I just love that! Okay, now read the text version of "Beach Bodies" and fill in the the worksheet. We did this activity with partners, but you will be doing it on your own, so ignore the last two boxes on the top chart.
