Today we talked about euphemisms. Basically a euphemism is a nice way to say something. For example, "passed away" instead of "died."
In The Giver Jonas' community says they value precision of language (as we learned in chapter 7 with "snack" and "smack"). However, they seem to use a lot of euphemisms. (As in the first Caleb was "lost" rather than "died" or "drowned.")
Read chapters 8 and 9 of The Giver and then complete the worksheet below.
