Welcome to Reading Skills!
The goal of this class is to improve students' reading abilities through systematically focusing on the close reading skills and analysis that make strong readers. No matter a student's starting point, learning these essential skills will help students feel empowered to tackle even the most difficult texts.
CURRICULUM
This class will focus on essential close reading skills including: inferences, context clues, word meaning, making connections, summarizing and paraphrasing, and annotation.
TEXTS
This class will use the novel Wonder, short stories, and informational articles. Below are links to some of the texts that will be used.
ASSESSMENTS
Approximately every two weeks students will be tested on essential close reading skills. These are called check days. If students will be absent, they should make up these check days in advance.
